Wiks Slott Choir Festival

A grand occasion to mark the beginning of the summer. Set in the grounds of the historic Wiks Castle 20km outside Uppsala, the afternoon was graced with beautiful sunshine and an eclectic mix of singing styles. Singing plays an important role in the lives of many Swedes. It is not only a way of socialising, it also provides a challenging and uplifting experience that can rejuvinate a tired soul. Renditions of songs by Neil Young, Evert Taube, the Beatles and many other modern artists were effortlessly intertwined with more traditional songs. The highlight was a version of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody sung by a choir named Tonprakt which brought a rapturous round of applause from the appreciative audience. Another interesting performance was that of De Visa. The choir of girls danced to the music in the spirit of Reeves and Mortimer’s ‘Action, Image, Exchange’. A great afternoon was had by all. Roll on summertime!
